Alaska as a Family: An Adventure We'll Never Forget
Some destinations are beautiful. Others are transformative.
Our family's recent Alaska adventure with Royal Caribbean's Cruisetour was both.
From the moment we arrived in Vancouver, there was a sense that this trip would be different. We spent time exploring the city before boarding our ship, soaking in the excitement of the journey ahead. But nothing could have prepared us for the incredible scenery, wildlife, and unforgettable experiences that awaited us.
Alaska has a way of making you feel small—in the very best way.
Towering mountains, massive glaciers, endless forests, and pristine waters surrounded us at every turn. Everywhere we looked, Mother Nature put on a show. Photos simply don't do it justice.
Sailing aboard Ovation of the Seas gave us the perfect blend of adventure and comfort. While the scenery outside was breathtaking, there was just as much excitement on board. Our girls loved exploring the ship, discovering new activities, and creating memories that we'll talk about for years to come.
One of the things I loved most about this trip was watching Alaska through my children's eyes. Every whale sighting felt magical. Every port brought a new adventure. Every mountain seemed bigger than the last. In a world filled with screens and schedules, Alaska gave us something increasingly rare: uninterrupted family time and a shared sense of wonder.
Each port offered its own unique personality. From charming coastal towns to rich Native Alaskan culture and fascinating Gold Rush history, there was always something new to discover. Whether we were exploring ashore or simply enjoying the views from the ship, we found ourselves constantly reminded of how extraordinary this part of the world truly is.
And then there were the wildlife encounters.
Bald eagles soaring overhead. Whales surfacing in the distance. Sea lions lounging along the shoreline. Alaska isn't just a place you visit—it's a place you experience with all your senses.
What surprised me most was how much Alaska appealed to every member of our family. The kids found adventure and excitement. My husband appreciated the incredible landscapes and outdoor experiences. I loved the combination of exploration and meaningful family connection. It truly is one of those rare destinations that offers something for everyone.
As a travel advisor, I'm fortunate to visit some incredible places around the world. But as a mom, the trips that matter most are the ones that bring our family closer together. Alaska did exactly that.
We came home with thousands of photos, countless stories, and memories that will last a lifetime. More importantly, we came home with a renewed appreciation for spending quality time together and experiencing the world as a family.
If Alaska has been on your bucket list, consider this your sign. Whether you're traveling with children, grandparents, friends, or as a couple, Alaska offers a combination of natural beauty, adventure, and awe that is difficult to find anywhere else.
This wasn't just a vacation.
It was an experience we'll never forget.
